Communicating online

Effective online communication skills are critical for online WIL as the workforce today is comprised of people from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds who practise different value systems. Employers also place emphasis on effective communication skills when selecting or recruiting employees.

Thanks to technology, companies no longer need to have all their employees in one physical place to operate. We can now communicate easily across time zones and geographic locations.

Communicating in these remote settings is not without its challenges though. If co-workers are in different time zones, for example, scheduling a meeting can be a little tougher. Therefore, you may need to allow more time to communicate ideas and receive feedback with these co-workers.
